What actually happens between walking in and walking out — the counsellor, the surgeon, the imaging, and the moment you should not let yourself be rushed.
You will meet a counsellor before you meet a doctor
Almost every Korean cosmetic clinic runs consultations in two stages. A counsellor, called a 실장, takes your history, discusses what you want, explains packages and quotes prices. Then you see the doctor, often briefly. The counsellor is a sales and coordination role, not a medical one. Both conversations matter; only one of them is clinical.
Ask which doctor operates, by name
At larger clinics the surgeon who consults is not always the surgeon who operates. This is the single most important question of the day and it is entirely reasonable to ask: who performs my surgery, what is their specialty board certification, and will that be written into my consent form? A clinic that will not name the operating surgeon in writing has told you something.
Imaging and simulation
Many clinics take standardized photos and run 3D simulation software. Treat the simulated result as a communication tool for aligning expectations, not a promise. Ask the surgeon directly which parts of the simulation are realistic for your anatomy and which are not. A good surgeon will tell you what they cannot do.
The pressure point
The most common complaint in Korean-language reviews is not a bad result — it is being pushed into additional procedures on the day. Same-day discounts that expire when you walk out are a sales tactic, not a medical recommendation. You are allowed to say you will think about it, leave, and come back. Reputable clinics expect this.
What to bring
Bring your passport, any relevant medical history and current medications, a list of allergies, and photos of the result you are aiming for. If you have had previous surgery in the area, bring the operative record if you can get it — for revision work it changes what is possible.
Before you leave
Leave with four things in writing: the itemized quote, the name of the operating surgeon, the anaesthesia plan, and the follow-up schedule including what happens after you fly home. If you cannot get those four on paper, that is your answer about whether to book.
